Remote File Clerk / Typist / Medical Biller

EmblemHealth is looking for a detail-oriented Remote File Clerk/Typist/Medical Biller to join our administrative team. In this role, you'll handle critical medical billing and records management tasks from home, working with patient files, insurance claims, and billing documentation. You'll be responsible for data entry, file organization, claim processing, and maintaining accurate records that directly impact patient care and company operations. This is a full-time position based in Indianapolis, Indiana, with remote work flexibility.

• Enter medical billing codes, patient information, and claim details into our billing systems with accuracy and speed
• Organize, file, and retrieve patient medical records and billing documents according to HIPAA standards and company protocols
• Process insurance claims, verify coverage information, and follow up on claim status and denials
• Type medical reports, correspondence, and documentation from handwritten notes or audio recordings
• Maintain organized digital and physical file systems, ensuring all documents are properly labeled and stored
• Reconcile billing discrepancies and work with insurance companies to resolve claim issues
• Prepare and submit billing documentation to insurance carriers and patients
• Verify patient demographic information and update records in our systems
• Track aging accounts and assist with collection efforts on outstanding balances
• Meet daily and weekly productivity targets for data entry and claim processing
• Communicate with insurance representatives and internal departments to clarify billing questions
• Comply with all privacy regulations, security protocols, and company policies

• High school diploma or GED
• Proven experience as a file clerk, medical biller, typist, or similar administrative role (2+ years preferred)
• Typing speed of at least 50 words per minute with high accuracy
• Knowledge of medical billing codes (ICD-10, CPT) or willingness to obtain certification
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Basic understanding of HIPAA privacy requirements
• Reliable internet connection and a quiet workspace at home
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

• Certification as a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist (MBCS) or Certified Professional Biller (CPB)
• Previous experience with major insurance carriers (UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, etc.)
• Experience with specific EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks
• Knowledge of workers' compensation or disability billing
• Bilingual capabilities (English and Spanish)
